Mirror Mirror on ‘The Voice’

When asked about his surprise decision to add Magic Mirror to season five’s line-up of judges on “The Voice,” series creator John de Mol said it was time to add an element that had been missing from the show until now.

“We wanted a judge who could offer a true reflection of today’s viewers. Magic Mirror was at the top of a short list,” said de Mol, who wouldn’t divulge the identity of any other mirrors on the list. However, an insider at The Voice revealed there had been serious talks with the Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter. When asked about this, de Mol was quick to answer.

“We already have four judges who only show people what they want to see. If we wanted another one, we would’ve asked Shakira back,” said de Mol, who added that Magic Mirror offers a well-rounded perspective and insightful critiques.

“He came to the first day of rehearsal extremely polished,” de Mol said of Magic Mirror. “I think it surprised everyone, but not as much as his sense of humor. When Christina is walking across the water in the commercial, that’s Magic Mirror she’s standing on. During the first take, he said, ‘From thy view, thou art the fairest among the states, but thoust curtains don’t exactly match the drapes!’ I thought Blake and Adam were going to fall out of their boat.”

According to executive producer Billy Schlependorf, one of the biggest hurdles in getting Magic Mirror on board was negotiating with Evil Queen Clementianna, who only agreed after producers relented to certain concessions.

“She drives a hard bargain,” said Schlependorf. “But hey — You don’t get the name ‘Evil Queen’ for nothing.”

Among the concessions producers agreed to is the Evil Queen’s appearance in every episode. “That actually worked out for everyone,” said Schlependorf. “I mean, we need someone to punch the button for Magic Mirror… since he doesn’t actually have hands.”

So how has the addition of Magic Mirror — or “MM” as he will be called on The Voice — affected the cast’s chemistry? Insiders say the mood on the set is extremely positive.

“Everyone likes MM,” said third-assistant producer Susy Bummfelt. “I think the only one who doesn’t like him is our lighting director. He’s pretty frustrated right now.”

I have no problem with that, as long as long as it doesn’t include a view of Miley Cyrus.

True. But he’s no Paula Abdul.

Then again neither is Paula Abdul…

Well now, I’m just going to have to get back on board to watch “The Voice” now that MM is on it. I bet MM and Christina become fast friends. They seem like they would be a good match for each other.

Will the theme music for the evil witch be Black Magic Woman ? Oh and will the Magic Mirror hang around after the show ? Sorry I must have said that for some levitately…… One last question… when the contestants are voted off the show … will they get a free once in a lifetime apple ?

Hate the show … but loved this clever post, Ned!

How about Cinderella partnering the Beast on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’? Can’t be any worse than some of the contestants. (Do you have SCD over there?)

I’ll say it again: you guys are frickin’ brilliant.
Never saw that show (don’t watch tv) until I stayed at my sister’s.
I would love to see her face with the shakeup of MM on the panel!
